In this third GDPR branch event to be held on 7 March, aimed at all Marketers, we get our first opportunity to discuss the proposed Jersey regulations. We are delighted to welcome Paul Vane, Acting Information Commissioner, who is going to discuss some of the most pertinent issues for Marketers to be aware of such as:

•Consent and fair processing
•Transparency
•Opt in or opt out
•Privacy policies
•Data storage/Cloud providers/data processors
•Data Protection Officers

The purpose of the new legislation is to provide equivalent protection to the European Union’s GDPR and Law Enforcement Directive to enhance individuals’ rights and to enable data to move freely between Jersey and the European Union.

Paul’s career has included working with the Jersey Financial Services Commission, initially in their Policy and Legal department, but then the Compliance division working in the fields of investment business and trust company business. He took the position of Deputy Information Commissioner in 2004, just prior to the implementation of the current Data Protection Law. Over the last 13 years he has witnessed a sea change in the way we live our lives through technology. From the advent of the Internet through to the rapidly increasing use of Artificial Intelligence.

This new legislation will be essential to facilitate trade and ensure that law enforcement authorities in Jersey can continue to cooperate with their colleagues in other jurisdictions.

If approved by the States Assembly and the Privy Council, the new laws are expected to come into effect on 25 May 2018 to co-incide with the UK and European GDPR.

There will be a Q&A session after this thought-provoking presentation so we expect you to have plenty of questions.

The EU recently approved the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the largest change to the protection of personal data since the Directive in 1995. The GDPR comes into effect on 25 May 2018.

In this essential event aimed at all marketers we plan to dispel some of the myths that have developed around GDPR and the person that knows this best is Jersey’s Information Commissioner, Emma Martins.

Emma is responsible for regulatory oversight of the new GDPR-equivalent legislation across Jersey and Guernsey and is central to developing the GDPR for both islands.

It is unlikely that the States of Jersey or Guernsey will publish the new legislation until late in 2017 or early 2018 so Emma will assist us in understanding how GDPR will affect our business and what we can do to “get our house in order” in the meantime.

Emma is an energetic and enthusiastic speaker, and is creating a presentation specifically for local marketers. Whilst this is a serious subject, Emma will deliver her content in an entertaining fashion – making it easy to understand and retain. There will be a Q&A session after this thought-provoking presentation so we expect you to have plenty of questions!

The Chartered Institute of Marketing is delighted to announce that you can now purchase your tickets for the 2011 CIM Awards Gala Dinner which is taking place on Friday 18th November 2011, at the Great Hall, Hotel de France.

The Gala Dinner celebrates marketing excellence in Jersey and the institute will be announcing the winners of the 2011 CIM Jersey Awards. The evening starts at 6.45pm with a Champagne reception, followed by a three course dinner, entertainment and dancing, with carriages at 2am.

Steve Cartwright, Chairman of the local branch commented: “The Awards & Gala Dinner brings together the biggest gathering of marketing and business professionals in Jersey.
